Another concept that Ineco plays with is “utilization”, which is the result of dividing passengers per kilometer by seats per kilometer. For a line to be efficient it has to have a utilization of more than 33%, which is a way of saying that the train seats have to be occupied in at least one third of the total for an Avant line to be considered OSP.
“It can be appreciated,” reads the Ineco report. “That 9 of the 12 lines analyzed present utilizations higher than 40%. These lines have degrees of coverage above 50% except for the Zaragoza – Calatayud line, which has a coverage coefficient of 31.1%, and the Lleida-Barcelona line, with a coverage coefficient of 49.6%”.
“Thanks to the Avant, almost 1.5 million passengers do not travel by road between Madrid and Toledo and it takes them only 25 minutes to travel between the two cities. The Toledo-Madrid route has in fact a coverage coefficient of almost 98%, so its profitability -at the very least- social is evident. Launched in 2005 when the germ of the Avant was called AVE Lanzadera, the high-speed line to Toledo is a branch of the first AVE line between Madrid and Seville, inaugurated in April 1992.

Los billetes de AVE a 15 euros se pondrán a la venta el próximo lunes 1 de febrero en los canales habituales, como ‘www.renfe.com’, agencias de viajes presenciales y virtuales, ‘RENFE Ticket’, estaciones, venta telefónica y oficinas de Correos, y se podrán adquirir hasta el 14 de febrero.
Además, durante este periodo seguirá activa la promoción de los billetes de Avlo, el tren de alta velocidad ‘low cost’, cuyos billetes se pueden adquirir actualmente a 5 euros desde su página web. El lunes también estarán disponibles en Renfe.
