Oviedo is the capital of the Principality of Asturias and is therefore the commercial, administrative and university center of the Asturian community. It is the seat of the General Assembly of the Principality and the University of Oviedo. It has more than 220,000 inhabitants and is considered one of the cities with the best quality of life in Europe.
It is also a historic town, whose origins date back to the eighth century or even earlier. For this reason, to walk through the “Antiguo”, as the old town is known, is to travel back in time. It has an exceptional cathedral and numerous palaces, as well as beautiful surroundings on the slopes of Monte Naranco.
To visit it completely and without haste, we suggest you to rent a car in our office in Ventura street. This way you can also drive to other nearby cities such as Gijón, Avilés and, if you have time, to León.
Remember that much of the center of Oviedo is pedestrian and has subway parking lots. We recommend that you opt for these spaces to park your vehicle as the fines for improper parking are usually very high. Therefore, use the parking meters in the areas where they are indicated. And do not forget to bring your vehicle documents, identification card, insurance certificate and driver’s license.

Ryanair
Asturias will have two more international routes in addition to the eight already known and awarded in the tender to boost the airport’s international connectivity. There will also be flights to Dublin and London Stansted. These destinations are in addition to those in the tender: Dusseldorf, Rome and Brussels (also to be operated by Ryanair within the tender), London-Gatwick, Paris-Orly and Amsterdam (awarded to Vueling) and Lisbon and Milan (to be operated by Volotea).
Jorge García, deputy minister of the Principality, highlighted the recovery of international routes at Santiago del Monte and emphasized that now there will be the “largest international flight operation that the Asturias airport has ever had”.
The five Ryanair routes (Rome, Dusseldorf, Brussels, London-Stansted and Dublin) and the Vueling route to Amsterdam will be added to those of Paris-Orly and London-Gatwick, destinations with which the airport already operates, as of October 30. Volotea’s routes to Lisbon and Milan will be launched in March 2023.
