I felt like we were right together for the first time. So the whole methodology changed quite a bit from the beginning of this record, in the sense that it was always me and Gavin writing together, coming up with swings and riffs or working with Richard on melodies and songs. So that was really a change.
It wasn’t like we were going back to an old way of doing things. It was more like we were finding a new way of doing something, but using the same kind of Porcupine Tree sound and DNA.
I asked myself this question because it’s a hard question to answer. I think the point at which I give up on a song is when I can listen to it and there’s nothing else I can do to make it better. And when I say that, I don’t mean that it’s perfect, but what I mean is that there’s nothing more I can do. With my limited talents and my limited ability, I’ve done everything I can to make the song sound the way I’ve heard it in my head, and that may not always be perfect, it may be far from sounding the way I’d like it to, but there’s nothing more I can do to make it better. And at that point, you have to choose: you can either release it into the world or put it in a box and never let anyone hear it again. So there’s the choice. There’s nothing else I can do with this to make it better – am I going to publish it or not? And I think if you’re excited and passionate about something, by all means publish it.
The poem journey
One more of the many masterpieces that like notches on a revolver accumulate in Bowie’s career. It says a lot about the strength of its melody that a song so impenetrable from the point of view of its enigmatic lyrics has become such a popular theme.
Composed half-composed with Brian Eno during David Bowie’s Berlin period, the song was not particularly successful in its day either in the United Kingdom or in the United States, but over time it has become one of the singer’s key songs. As a curiosity, Moby has said that “Heroes” is one of the best songs ever composed and Dave Gahan, vocalist of Depeche Mode, was hired in the band when the founder of the band, Vince Clarke, heard him sing it during a jam session.
After composing it, Bowie gave it to the singer Peter Noone, vocalist of Herman’s Hermits, who decided to use it as his first solo single, with Bowie himself at the piano. Later its author would use it in his album Hunky Dory. The song has references to the occultist Aleister Crowley -whom Jimmy Page adored- and the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, as well as to several classical writers.

Atemahawke is the debut album by the Mexican experimental rock band Porter. The album was released on May 15, 2007, by 3.er Piso Records. From the album are 4 singles, “Host of a Ghost”, “Vaquero Galáctico”, “Cuervos” and “Xoloitzcuntile chicloso”, throughout the album there are 8 characters that are intertwined in absurd stories, the stories were presented as comics or tales and are narrated in the songs.
Vaquero Galáctico is the third song, it starts with a guitar arrangement and later a piano enters along with vocals and guitar arrangements, the song was inspired by the death of a friend of Juan Son and he imagined what it would be like to travel the cosmos and see the people you love again. Originally the song was to be part of the soundtrack of the movie: “A Wonderful World”, it was the first to be written after the release of “Where Ponies Graze”.
Host of a Ghost talks about someone Juan Son loved very much but one day when he looked into her eyes he felt that she was not the same, as if she had died and he had not realized it, as if something possessed her, the song has harmonies of cats’ meows and its video was directed by Juan Son himself, he was inspired by Tim Burton and Quentin Tarantino, it narrates the birth of one of the characters of the album.
