Descubre la majestuosa ciudad de Uxmal, conocida como “La tres veces construida”, se encuentra en una zona de cerros llamada Puuc, que rompe la monotonía de la llanura yucateca. Es la ciudad más importante de la zona ya que llegó a tener 20.000 habitantes en su esplendor (600 – 900 d.C.). Está formada por 15 grupos de edificios. Abarcan unos 2 km, destacando la Pirámide del Adivino, el Cuadrilátero de las Monjas y el Palacio del Gobernador.
Continuaremos hacia la zona arqueológica de Kabah, que es uno de los pocos asentamientos que conservan su nombre prehispánico, el cual se menciona en el Chilam Balam de Chuyamel, y que significa “la mano poderosa”. Situada a un par de kilómetros de Uxmal donde disfrutarás de la gran variedad de estructuras mayas, predominando el famoso Arco de la Falsa Bóveda y el estilo constructivo llamado “Puuc”, y también podrás ver elementos del estilo Petén y Chenes.
La palabra cenote proviene del maya dzonot, que significa “abismo”. Son pozos de agua dulce generados por la erosión de la piedra caliza. Lugares sagrados para la cultura maya y que probablemente le dieron tal atributo por su imponente belleza. De los muchos cenotes que existen en Yucatán, los de Santa Bárbara son de los más bellos ya que se trata de un conjunto de tres cenotes vírgenes que se encuentran dentro de un complejo recientemente inaugurado. Este hecho hace que su aspecto sea mucho más natural y que el color de sus aguas sea diverso. La maravilla de este complejo de cenotes es que sus características son diferentes, todos están rodeados de flora y fauna autóctona, y cuentan con escaleras para acceder con seguridad.
